Get a Website or Domain Getting your own website / domain name is easy and cheap. It really upsets me seeing how this basic simple process is so confusing to so many people. Not your fault, it is the industry. You would think this was state secrets, need to know info. It is not. Let me help explain the process. 1st I want to mention, that if you have plans on making money on-line, you will eventually want a website. The Internet is based on websites and domain names. Continue reading to let me try and explain this. I will save you money.
Websites - Domains - what's the difference. A domain is a name. greatbuys.net for example is a domain. I purchased greatbuys.net 10 years ago. Well purchasing is not the right word, I searched and found greatbuys.net was not registered. I registered it, and own it as long as I pay a yearly fee. If I don't pay the yearly fee, I loose the name and someone else can register it and own it. Leasing it may be a better word. There are a small handful of companies you can register a domain at, these companies are called registers. They charge a yearly fee, typically $15 a year. This gives you a name such as greatbuys.net. It does not give you a website or email to use. Registering a name is the 1st step though. Now that you have registered a name you need to host it. Basically this is signing up with a company and paying them a fee to use their server to place your site on. This also gets you email@yourname.com. Their are literally 1.000's of hosting companies. Be careful. You, without knowing a thing on this could start your own hosting company today, as a reseller. Uptime, support and finally cost are all considerations. I was a ISP for over 10 years and hosted many domains. Your ISP is not who you want to use. Find a large hosting company, they will offer more for less money. Hosting costs money monthly. Prices vary, but I wouldn't pay more than $10 a month. I own a hosting company but you won't see my ad here. This site is about info.
Ok. I have registered a domain name, I picked ABC hosting company. Am I ready to go? Nope, sorry. You now need to create a website. Your email should work, but you have to design and create a website so if people go to yourdomainname.com they see your pages or content. Confusing? To recap. Get a domain, a yearly cost of $15.00. Find a hosting company, monthly cost of no more than $10.00 a month. You can then pay someone to create your website, but I recommend letting me teach you how to do it yourself.
